What kind of information can I find on this site?
I have attempted to take my many years of expertise (well, okay, just
a couple years of fumbling around and learning the hard way) and put it into
print here for the benefit of other potential travelers, cyclists, etc.
It is not the end-all, be-all of travel advice. In fact, I'm often just
barely surviving by a thread, so maybe you shouldn't take my advice at
all. Nevertheless, it's here for your perusal. Here's the gist of
it:
- Disclaimer
READ IT! This ain't yo' mama's travel guide...
- Diatribe on WWW Design
Like/Don't Like the way this site is designed? Here's why I
designed it this way.
- How To Help
Want to get involved in this adventure? Want to give me a helping
hand? This is where to find out how.
- Statement of Purpose
What's this site all about? Why does it exist? What's the point?
- My journal/travel
diary
A REAL-LIFE account of what it's like to travel. Everything from
the mundane (what I had to eat today) to political analysis to cool
things I've seen or done. These documents were the original impetus for
this site; I hope to provide you, the reader, with material which is both
interesting and demonstrative of "life on the road." I hope you enjoy
it!
- Photo gallery
If I scanned in every picture I've taken while traveling, I would
overload the server, not to mention you viewers. I'll try to pick out some of the better shots,
though. As much as possible, I will try to make links from my Journal to
photos (e.g., photos of people I've written about, etc.), but remember
that I send my journal entries by email, whereas the pictures have to
arrive home by snail mail, and then somebody back home has to take the
time to scan them in. Please be patient!
- A little blurb about me
Hey, nobody wanted to write a biography on me, so I had to do it
myself...
- Travel Resources
- Tips for first-time
travelers
Everything I wish I had known before I started traveling: what
equipment to take,
what to leave home, money-saving tips, tips on picking a travel partner
(or going solo!)
and hints on how to keep from killing your travel buddy.
- Tips for first-time
cyclists
Choosing a bike (and other gear), how much to train, planning your
distances, etc.
- Tips on researching your
destination
How much do you want to learn before you go? How much do you want
to get out of your
trip?
- My equipment list
Every single piece of equipment that I carry with me, from my bike
to my toothpaste.
- Equipment
Reviews
Some of it's lasted, some of it hasn't. I'm not a professional
equipment tester, but
here you can get an idea of what equipment I've liked and what I
haven't.
- Country Summary
Sheets
Just a brief summary to help you decide where to go. Scenery,
monuments, weather, expense, food, people, cleanliness, terrain, and road
conditions (for cyclists).
- Reviews of public
accommodation
I obviously can't give a review of every place I've camped (e.g., "go
100 yards past the 53rd mile marker on route 36 and you'll find a flat
spot of ground where nobody can see you"), but I'll try to review every
youth hostel, campground, cheap hotel or B&B I stay in. Organized
by Country/City. (No longer being updated.)
- Links to Other Useful
Sites
I did a lot of my own research on these sites. The World Health
Organization, the US
State Department, sites for currency exchange rates, etc.
That's it! If there's anything that you can't find here
that you think might be useful, drop
me a line. If I can provide it, I will.
