Literally walking distance (1/4 mile) from the Newgrange visitor's center, this immaculate, comfortable B&B is run by the friendliest of folk. Mr. McDonnell manages the farm and Mrs. McDonnell runs the B&B. The rooms are spotless, the heat works, the showers (en suite) are always hot (electric flash heating) and the beds have got electric blankets. Breakfast was enormous and very tasty. The official price is £20 for a double, but I ended up paying £10, thanks to Mrs. McDonnell's generosity and a bit of pity on my poor, pathetic soul, dirty and exhausted as I was. (Expect to book in advance and pay the full £20; she's close enough to Newgrange that she's completely booked out for a good portion of the year. I lucked out and came unannounced on a day when she had no guests at all, and I only had £14, including the money I needed to get into Newgrange the next morning. Anyway, in retrospect it would have been worth £20, particularly since I had had a rough day of cycling and desperately needed a comfortable place to sleep and a good meal.)

Anyway, I highly recommend Roughgrange Farm if you're going to visit Newgrange and want to stay in the region for a night. You couldn't ask for a more hospitable hostess than Mrs. McDonnell.
