Current Projects

I haven't had time to give this website the facelift it deserves, but the bottom line is that my list of current projects has been totally turned upside-down because of hurricane Katrina. I'm no longer at Tulane (I'm at OHSU), I'm doing clinical rotations now, the research I was involved in at Tulane has been abandoned, and I'm working on getting involved in various neurosurgery-related projects here at OHSU. I'll write more when I get a chance. In the meantime, here are a couple of my web projects, which are in various states of disarray and construction:

  • Illusion of Knowledge This is a website that I put together for the discussion of controversial topics in medicine, particularly those related to dogmatic themes in medicine. For example, almost every surgical textbook you'll ever read states that you can't use local anesthetic with epinephrine on a finger, because it will cause necrosis. This is not supported by research, and recent studies actually demonstrate that it's not true, yet the dogma continues. IllusionOfKnowledge.com is a place to discuss such issues and hopefully dispel the dogma.
  • Ars Cerebri This site was my attempt to provide an alternative site for the discussion of issues related to neurosurgery. It has suffered two major setbacks: 1) Nobody wants to use it. Whatever. 2) The database got bitch-slapped when my former ISP had a major hard-drive crash, and I haven't had the time to reconstitute it since. So, this site is almost useless, but I like the name and hope to do something with it someday.
  • Just a Cyclin' Fool This was my online travelogue while I was galavanting around the globe. You can still see all the pretty pictures, but the travelogue itself has been password protected. It was a very candid, not entirely politically correct diary, so I decided that it wasn't necessarily appropriate for public consumption. If you really want to read it, just ask and I'll probably give you the password.
